How We Work

NJL is a full-service company ready to meet all of your litigation support and trial needs. We understand the practice of law is not a nine to five, Monday through Friday job, so we are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our litigation support services have grown to cover broad topics ranging from collecting electronically stored information (ESI) and other eDiscovery services to trial presentations to the document copying we started with! These include more specific topics such as managed review teams, digital forensics, document repositories, data mapping, multimedia trial presentations, and much more!

Our Story

Founded as New Jersey Legal Copy, Inc., in 1994 by a group of experienced industry leaders from national and local litigation support organizations, we identified a need in the New Jersey marketplace for a first-class service organization that puts quality and customer service first. Since our founding, law firms and corporations have counted on New Jersey Legal to help manage their documents and information more efficiently. We have earned a reputation for superior customer service and the highest quality work product. In the markets we serve, our production capabilities and production capacity are unmatched. With our footprint rapidly growing nationally, we adopted the brand “NJL” to stay true to our roots while encouraging business without borders. NJL is a ONE TEAM, ONE SOLUTION litigation support provider.

Gary Overman: President & Founder

30+ years of experience in the development of growth, technology, services, and client relationship strategies. Proud graduate of Texas State University. Admires wife Carol for raising their three wonderful girls and for somehow staying married to him for twenty-five years. Golf, basketball, fishing, biking, reading, and traveling are several ways the Overman family enjoys spending time together.

What would I change?

I would simplify discovery by educating our legal professionals about new technologies. With the industry evolving so rapidly, many of our clients find it challenging to keep pace. Some beneficial technologies are often overlooked because of their complexity, the time it takes to learn, client pressure to cut billable hours, etc. Technology advancements are meant to empower legal professionals and improve efficiencies. Technology can help reduce the time sifting through documents and data to fulfill discovery requests. In turn, this would enable attorneys to devote more time to their client development. While many are adapting well, some legal professionals feel they are navigating choppy waters.

Most important qualities you appreciate:

Adaptability! Has NJL adapted? NJL navigated through paper and electronic document services, into e-discovery. We then invested heavily in trial technology, hosted solutions, and the construction of a 13,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art document review facility to perform the managed review. Currently, NJL is investing in analytics. You know, near duping, threading, clustering, etc. Next up? Predictive coding! The theme here is plain and simple – adapt or die! We don’t like the last option. Best of all… we learned by doing it all ourselves. No contractors, no subs, no consultants. Just team NJL. One Team, One Solution.

David MacDonald: Partner and EVP of Business Development

Before Joining NJL, Dave spent five years learning the industry from the inside out. From production to customer service, to budgeting . . . he did it all. A graduate of West Chester University, he was an All-American quarterback inducted into the WCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. He married his college sweetheart, Jeanine, and they have two beautiful daughters. They enjoy all sports, watch movies together, and have a wealth of family and friends with which they share their time.

What would I change?

It’s hard to say what I would personally change about our industry because it is continually evolving at such a rapid pace. I will say that we have a responsibility to our clients to keep up with these changes and advancements in technology to help ensure their success.

Most important qualities you appreciate:

The qualities I appreciate most are commitment, competitiveness, and passion. These are qualities I not only try to live by but also instill in my two children. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing my daughters working hard in a team environment to accomplish a goal. I hope one day they will thank me for these qualities!

Scott Simme: Managing Partner, Princeton, NJ.

Spirited graduate of Liberty University. Scott has enjoyed tremendous success and was invited to become a shareholder in 2010. Scott is married to his longtime sweetheart, Karla, and they are both very busy raising two awesome kids. They recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. They enjoy spending time with family and friends, outdoor activities and are very active in their church.

What would I change?

The industry seems to be changing pretty dramatically on its own. I can’t say that I would want to accelerate that change, or even slow it down. I encourage and embrace the change and feel it is an opportunity to become more consultative with our clients.

Most important qualities you appreciate:

Loyalty and integrity. I think business and family interweave constantly, and I think these serve as great qualities for both. I enjoy my job because our firm and our clients seem to have a lot of loyalty and integrity. I see it daily, and I am thankful.

Kristin Falzarano: Administrator

A founding member of NJL, Kristin started in document services after graduating from Muhlenberg College in 1993. She now serves as Operations Administrator. Her keen sense of emotional intelligence empowers Kristin to develop lasting relationships with NJL employees and customers. Kristin holds a BA in Psychology and was a Lady Mules Basketball Star.

What would I change?

I would not change a thing within our industry as it is changing every day. This constant evolution keeps our work very exciting and challenging. For any Team to succeed, it has to challenge itself consistently and dramatically from time to time. That is exactly what has happened here at NJL, and it’s been awesome to keep up with the industry.

Most important qualities you appreciate:

Integrity and competitiveness are the qualities I appreciate the most. I believe that without integrity, success just isn’t worth it. Without competitiveness, how can we challenge ourselves to do better individually and collectively?
